Pros

Overall, NBBJ is an amazing company to work for. The projects are diverse and challenging. The design directions are not dictated by one ego. There is a broad community with offices all over the world which provides interesting opportunities and interactions. The is a great company if you are looking for a place to grow professionally.

Cons

Like most designers it is hard to have a good work/life balance. This is very true at NBBJ. Employees personal life suffers at times due to lack of communication between management and because the project teams seldom have a strong senior leader involved completely.

Pros

Great work. Quality of work is awesome. Free food at times and support for licensing.

Cons

Women and international employees have no respect. They are treated badly and let go easily. Very political. Dressing well is very imp. They want you to work 60+ hours but will not tell you so because of HR stuff. If you don't work like that, you are let go. Too much politics

Rudderless Leadership

Pros

The premise of the studio system as a "autonomous" business unit is a great idea.

Cons

The Managing Partners fail to really support or trust studios to do what they need to do to function as a profitable team of creative professionals. Instead, the work environment feels very top-down where partners don't know who the staff is, and frankly, couldn't care less. They refuse to mandate standards where needed and desired to improve processes and tools, and legislate where it's not needed. The leadership is totally out of touch. It's the kind of place where you work 30 years, and get a 15 minute lame send off with a half an inch of champagne. You really feel like a meaningless cog there.
