Culture of Fear

Pros

None that I can think of

Cons

Upper management is too afraid to lose their jobs to allow any flexibility to their staff whatsoever. They are afraid of the "chief people officer," and will not stand up for their teams. The CPO goes on firing rampages, and will fire people for no reason, and the day before bonuses are paid so they can save a few bucks. Most everyone else that works there is quick to make others look bad and throw them under the bus because they want to make themselves look good, since everyone is constantly afraid of losing their jobs. Most people will not help with things when it is outside of the scope of their position, or go above and beyond, because hard work is not rewarded there. The place is deserted at 5pm, no one is willing to put in extra hours as necessary. Salaried people are required to badge in and out every day to track hours worked. Micromanaging at it's finest. No sick time allowed. So if you or your kids are sick, expect to use what little vacation time you have. I also heard from a current employee that they implemented a new policy that if you have an appointment during working hours, you must use vacation time, even if you are salaried. I've never seen that at any company I have worked at over the past 35 years. Run away as fast as you can from this place if you are considering working here.

Pros

Strong Brand, training, and product line.

Cons

The culture is one of a dictatorship. Leadership by fear, covered by acts of trivial philanthropy. Think of "the emperors new clothes". Everyone is scared of the Chief People Officer ( I didn't make that up, that is the name she gave herself ). This once great company is a sinking ship with the HR department at the helm. If you are considering a position with this "leader" in the industry, run away. I suppose if I read this I would be thinking, "it can't be that bad". Take my advice. Pass on this opportunity. Consider this...the highest level of sales leadership in this organization has absolutely no say in hiring and firing the sales team. Leaving HR to act as judge, jury, and executioner. Scary proposition. You have been warned.

Poor upper management at Goshen

Pros

Hourly paid associates are good hard working people. Stock plan is excellent for investment.

Cons

Upper management at the Goshen doesn't have a clue how to treat their workers. demoting long time associates and cutting their pay. Bringing in new salaried staff and expecting lower paid staff to train them. Departments are understaffed because the plant manager refuses to increase the wages. Associates walking out without notice. Upper management doesn't realize they are the problem. They think lower management is not making them feel wanted.
