Pros

Great training in the lab and for your career. Tons of great resources available - sometimes at your fingertips and sometimes you have to seek them out.

Cons

It's a huge machine and can sometimes be a bit daunting to navigate. Get to know the Administrative Officers and Administrative Assistants to help you navigate. PIs and other scientists that have been around a long time can also guide you.

Pros

FREEEDOM to pursue your life's dreams at the frontier of medical science. The science is very high impact, even though the intramural program is under-respected in the academic community

Cons

The postdoc part. Long hours, modest pay, never enough free time. Someone figure out how to get 4 more hours in a day and there will be no cons... except for the pay part.
