Pros

Free soup and coffee, benefits are decent, steady pay increases, but I believe that is changing.

Cons

Behind the times Extremely micro-managed The company is finally starting to change some practices, but none of which benefit employees or policyholders. Loyal insureds are getting surcharged when in an accident, even when not at fault. They used to NEVER surcharge for accidents, and now the threshold for surcharging the insured is extremely low. Even minor, non fault accidents will warrant the surcharge. Seems unfair. All employees were pretty much guaranteed a raise around 3% as long as they were doing their job satisfactorily. They have now adopted a new system, and the raises will be less than before, unless you go "above and beyond", which is impossible. Good employees are seen as "satisfactory", right along with the bad ones. If a manager puts too many "above average's on the annual review, HR will not approve it. Certain jobs can be remote. NJM is sloooowly exploring this possibility. Management is extremely incompetent. Don't know who promoted these buffoons. Work/life balance can be great, but management wants you in a constant state of stress by criticizing everything you do. Hard to relax once you get home, knowing you have to return in the morning.

Pros

Good starting salary and ok vacation time. Other than that it's a pretty miserable place to work.

Cons

MICROMANAGEMENT. Conflicting advice, you're dammed if you do and dammed if you don't. Taking on too much business but aren't equipped to handle it. You're literally watched every second your there. And don't ever call in sick because they will punish you for it. And don't ever think if you need to leave early for an emergency because if they need you on the phones they won't accommodate it.
