The unfortunate decline of a once good employer

Pros

There remain some employees that hold onto the spirit of the old NJM. If you are fortunate enough to work for one of them, your time working is probably not too bad. The Savings Fund Plan (not the one currently being offered to new starts) was very generous and set up retirees for a nice life once retired. Steady employment if you do a half decent job and keep out of trouble. Clean workplace and nice grounds.

Cons

New leadership is trouncing on the values that the company once held sacred. Respect for the hard work of employees has diminished, benefits are being cut, salary policies are changing to the determent of long time contributors, even new standards are being put in place to write auto policies that incorporate the use of credit reports and no longer offer automatic accident forgiveness for long time policyholders. What in the world is happening to NJM? If they stay this course, how will they attract and retain employees and customers?

As "employee friendly" as it gets!

Pros

I have been affiliated with NJM for a little less than a year. In my tenure here, I must say that I am very impressed with the company. The working environment is exceptional. In my experience, employees are treated with a great deal of dignity and respect. While a handful of people are quick to point out the fact that the company provides its employees with things like free soup, there are many more employee-friendly things NJM does that impress me. The benefits here are exceptional (excessively good, actually – not that I’m complaining!), the compensation is competitive, and from what I can see, it appears that work-life balance is achievable for just about everyone I’ve come into contact with. Having come from other companies, I can tell you, what NJM offers its staff is far better than what you’ll find from most companies. In fact, I’m pretty sure if people knew what they offered their employees, everybody would be trying to work here! The second thing that impresses me with NJM is the company’s current efforts to bring in new technology, industry best practices, and other initiatives to provide the place with some necessary improvements. These are much needed changes, but I think change is viewed by a handful of its long tenured employees as being a negative. Perhaps that’s because they’ve never experienced working other places to see what more businesses are like or maybe that’s because they’ve been here so long that they fear change? Either way, from my vantage point, those people are grossly mistaken or misinformed. I’ve worked for several employers in my career, including two Fortune 100 companies, and while no business is ever perfect is every way, NJM is definitely a great place to work. I've recommended applying to work here to both my friends and family.

Cons

I have not experienced anything negative at this point.

Pros

Good benefits, cafeteria onsite, great 401. No layoffs. No many other pros. The company is good the management is awful.

Cons

Not truthful with employees, individuals promoted without proper experience. The management is awful. Pay is not great. Look elsewhere.
