Pros

Excellent upward mobility if that is what you would like to do. Management has a clear head on their shoulders and there is opportunity for educational upgrades.

Cons

There is mostly a need to travel outside of Canada to develop your career. The management here seem to hunker down in there position and never leave.

Don't expect a future unless you are an engineer.

Pros

National Oilwell Varco is a good company that allows for a good work / life mix. While they will not push you, they allow for the completion of advancement programs. NOV allows for lateral movement if you would like to work in a different function than what you have your degree in.

Cons

There is a significant drop off in talent from top level management to middle management. Nothing is being done to identify and further the development of employees. We have to seek out opportunities.

Pros

There are a lot of good solid individuals to work with. Team atmosphere is good.

Cons

As an oil services company, NOV is not a particularly good place for a career in software development. The management does not understand the process and show no inclination to change their management style to support it.
