Toxic Work Environment

Pros

They offer decent benefits and healthcare.

Cons

A highly toxic work environment which is embedded in the structure of the company. It starts at the executive/managerial level and trickles down to all the departments at every bureau. Sexual harassment, bullying, and quid pro quo, to name a few. When brought to the attention of the managers, they make sure to take measures to check the boxes to protect themselves and the company. There is no protection/care/consideration afforded to those victimized. They talk a BIG game and have a great reputation externally, but the employees are abused and harassed across departments. The worse part is that the execs/managers are in complete denial about the toxic culture and therefore only gaslight you when you try to talk about what's really happening and talk about real solutions.

Pros

Brand recognition Cool swag Some people are great to work with Tiny desk concerts

Cons

Senior leadership (leads, directors, senior directors and above) are clueless and don’t know it /think they’re innovative Lack of diversity of thought at the top Antiquated technology, product teams are like glorified project managers who rely on “past glory days” Lack of ownership within engineering team You’d think you’re coming into a progressive environment that supports diversity. NPR DOES NOT SUPPORT any such notion. They’re pretending to try. But they truly need five more Whitney Maddoxes, 3 years of dedicated workshops, and a full restaff (including new hires who seem to have only been hired to fill a diversity quota) / reorg to make them competitive, to fix bias, to solve lack of direction.
