Pros

One cannot pass up the opportunity to continue your education at nominal cost and that was the greatest benefit. I loved working there until...(see Cons).

Cons

Management values profit over people, at least where I last worked. The good experiences that I gained in my short time there were quickly extinguished with the swift fall of a broad ax swung without discretion and or consideration for exceptional past performance. I, and a few others, were tossed out like yesterday's trash all to save a little $.

Pros

The tuition remission, benefits, and down-to-earth colleagues were some of the positive aspects of the job.

Cons

There is a palpable bias within departments, with instances of favoritism and inconsistent treatment of employees. This has created an atmosphere that lacks fairness and equality. Unfortunately, there appears to be an overt bias against union employees, which is unprofessional and goes against the principles of a collaborative work environment. I have witnessed how the HR management treated their union assistant. The pandemic brought to light a significant disparity in treatment. While many employees were required to work on-site, it seemed that some in leadership, including the hr director, opted for remote work. This apparent lack of solidarity raises questions about the commitment to the well-being of the entire staff. There is a perception that the director has an undue amount of influence, leading to an environment where accountability is seemingly overlooked. This raises concerns about potential misuse of authority. A growing sentiment of distrust towards higher executives and HR administration has been observed. This not only impacts morale but also the overall cohesiveness of the work community. Conclusion: My experience in FAS has been disheartening, and it is my sincere hope that these concerns are thoroughly addressed. A workplace should be built on principles of fairness, equality, and respect. I trust that NYU, as an institution committed to excellence, will take the necessary steps to rectify these issues.

Pros

Great union salaries that helps keep salaries ok, and grants us some protection and perks. Nice students from many different places and backgrounds interested in learning. Great library and access to facilities. It's a fine job but you need something else on the side in order to survive in NY.

Cons

Not much room for growth, once and adjunct, always and adjunct and not many possibilities of getting more than one class for semester. Don't expect to see any of your student's ridiculously high tuition trickling into your salary, the distance between what we make and what the school charges students is desolating.
