Pros

Excellent pay and benefits. Comprehensive training as you progress in skill, with generous step raises. Overtime is abundant in several departments if you are willing to put in the work. Union shop, Strong relationship with management and advancement is there if you are willing to challenge yourself. Stable employment in a company that is financially healthy and willing to invest in its infrastructure bodes well the future. National Grid is one of the few remaining places out there where you fan get a job and turn it into a career that allows you to live a comfortable life and provide for your family without needing to pick up 2 or more side jobs. Starting pay is not the greatest at low 20s but you advance quickly and overtime is plentiful in several departments. Management is stern but fair and generally will be minimally involved in your day to day work if you do the job correctly and follow procedure. In my experience here , you are noticed and appreciated when you give them an honest day's work and held accountable if you perform poorly.

Cons

Annual 3% raise does not even remotely offset the titanic increases in the cost of living. That said, many companies do not even give raises or offer overtime.
