Pros

In the downturn of the financial markets, utility and medical industry are probably somewhat safest place to work

Cons

Lots of downsides. first of all, the senior people within the company who are employed since the Brooklyn union and Lilco days, think they own the company and behave the way they want too. Secondly, the company speaks broadly about diversity and stuff but treats minority badly. Promotions are based on who knows who and not on merits. Have seen some managers and supervisors know nothing even about computers, but still holds senior positions. Junior staff does all the work while the seniors plays golf the whole day. Senior also get away watching pornos on computers coz they have godfathers within the company. Some departments functions like Mom & Pop stores or should i say like an Federal disability office.

Pros

Job security as a regulated utility company there is not much chance of being let go. The benefits are ok for a company of this size.

Cons

It feels like working for the govt and the pay is just as bad or worse. they dont pay any where near the going market rate, but they think they pay slightly above the market rate. advancement is basic on length of service

Pros

Large company with many departments. Good employee networks especially WIN (Women In Networks). It is good that it is investing in its brand and overall market worth.

Cons

Distrustful management atmosphere with silo mentality, and generally disrespects educated qualified staff working at the bottom of the organisation. Large sections of the legacy staff at middle and junior management positions are ill educated and ill informed and try their best to discourage any development for their staff. Unfortunately they do not understand their jobs or the environment of a modern commercial environment.
