Pros

Great R&D investment. Depends on the management chain but if your boss is the right kinda of advocate for you the pay for sales increases rapidly vs tenure. The currently management is pretty aggressive with reform to meet the changes in the market but this has only equated to better compensation and workflow for its employees.

Cons

Ability to move if you want either a change in role or location. There have been cases of this but in my experience I was told "Yes, we should have positions open that you can be considered for. We will help where we can." After a couple years of waiting and hearing this, I got frustrated. Its not like I wasn't performing either...they kept raising my salary and saying the same thing. Not a bad situation at all but not the response I wanted at the time.

Good Place to Work, but Has Obvious Faults

Pros

Most employees are young and fun to be around. The social environment is great, and most employees I know feel a real sense of team comradery. The recruiting function seems to do a great job of finding motivated folks who like to do their jobs well right out of school and learn quickly. The organizational structure is pretty flat (few levels of management) so most employees have autonomy to make decisions within their roles and teams. This also means that loud voices or long-time employees with loud voices can sometimes be the impetus for organizational change in the wrong direction. NI sells a lot of different products and solutions which means that employees have an opportunity to work on a lot of different projects and serve different audiences. This also means that the company changes organizational structure and focus often.

Cons

Benefits are woefully out of wack in the 3 and 10-year career range. My compensation and benefits are significantly less than my peers who work elsewhere. The company's products and customers are very technical, so folks who have engineering educations often end up doing most business functions (marketing, sales, etc.) at the top, middle, and bottom levels, which can sometimes lead to a lack of both diversity in thought process and demographics. Pros

There are still some great individuals in NI, left over from previous years when Dr. T. was CEO, although their numbers are rapidly dwindling in the current culture. After many years of complaints, the new CEO is finally taking some action on improving compensation. Now you can get a one digit % yearly salary increase if you're a top performer in R&D... I'll let you judge if that's little or a lot, but the bright side is upper management is not ignoring the problem anymore, so it's better than nothing. The stock price has increased under the new CEO (he's an accountant / financial focused person after all), although it's volatile because the markets "smell" there's something wrong with the company. Still, it's good if you're a shareholder.

Cons

All high performing employees that I know have left, are leaving or are planning to leave for greener pastures. The culture is very bad now, it turned toxic since the new CEO took over a few years ago. Lots of short term pressure and micromanagement (if you don't finish by Friday you'll have to come to work in the weekend). There is the perception that everything must be done for short term gains and deadlines, to increase short term revenue and boost investor confidence. Lots of shortcuts. An obscene number of politics, backstabbing and finger pointing when things inevitably go wrong. There is a constant attrition goal and hiring freeze going on for years coupled with small random layoffs and an upper management focused on moving development to lower cost countries in Asia. The company is a shadow of what it once was under Dr. T.

Pros

- Opportunity to learn - A great working culture : cooperation, support, and empowerment - Flexibility on working hours - Compassion, respect, and understanding

Cons

- Less exposure for career development. Less opportunity for growth and get promotion. - Poor compensation compared to similar companies. You will be paid same as like before even though you have to work for 3 manpower's job. - Poor new management, lack of communication. They didn't make open communication about what's exactly going on in this company. - Horrible on claim management process.

There's no heart left at NI

Pros

Good work-life balance, good benefits, family-friendly

Cons

When Dr. T retired in 2017, the heart left NI. The new CEO is very focused on the bottom line at the expense of the employees. Layoffs of people seemingly selected at random, truly inexplicable reporting structures implemented, and a change in retirement policy that robbed 20+ year veterans of the company of a huge amount of their retirement. It's truly sad to me to see such a lack of respect and appreciation for people who spent their entire careers at NI. Pay is dramatically lower than industry norms. The management team hodls quarterly town halls saying they are "looking into" the benefits and compensation packages, but nothing ever changes. A few years ago they raised the entry level vacation accrual by a week but didn't cascade that increase to employees who had already reached that level, so it basically penalized people who'd spent several years at the company.
