I am not sure if the board had any idea what was going on at the BTO. Nationwide brought in industry experts in lean six sigma from Fidelity, Cardinal, GE, McKinsey, Ford to deploy Lean six sigma at Nationwide. These people left their careers to come Nationwide for this purpose. Results were successful very quickly, the program won a national award in its first year. Guess what happened next, NW brought new leadership to BTO and completely demolished the program with people who has no clue what they are doing. There was not a single person left from the old group. The new team had no strategy or direction. Of course, they eventually failed. So what happened McKinsey came from outside and partnered with IT just to deploy Lean within NW and asked for a blank check. What McKinsey was doing was very basic compared to what the original team was doing. Biggest fault is at HR department. What were they really thinking? What was the qualification of this new team? How is it so easy for Nationwide to be throwing money and waste peoples time?
