Pros

Nationwide provides a good work life balance and opportunity for career diversification and advancement. Associates are treated fairly and given respect for what they provide. Due to the size of company, there are many job opportunities available to suite and develop most any set of skills and knowledge.

Cons

Nationwide is an extremely political workplace where who you know if often more valuable than what you know. Due to this political nature, there are usually major disconnects between the top and bottom of Nationwide's reporting structure. As an insurance and financial services company, you would think the benefits package could be a little stronger, although it remains industry competitive.

Pros

Work life balance, benefits, good boss, importance placed on community service and volunteerism, on-site banking, blood donation, hair salon, and work-out facility. I feel my voice is heard and I work hard and know it is appreciated. I am treated fairly and equally.

Cons

There are no downsides to working at Nationwide (other than just having to work!). I have been here 11 years and have enjoyed the people and the work ethic Nationwide instills in its employees. I have made many good friends here and look forward to coming to work.

Pros

The best reasons to work for Nationwide are to have a Fortune 500 company on your resume, to make great professional relationships that will last beyond your tenure at Nationwide, and to have a fair amount of job security and reasonable benefits package.

Cons

The downsides to working at Nationwide are extremely low base compensation, subjectivity vs. objectivity when reviewing performance and making salary decisions, favortism shown to those who would "brown-nose" upper management, senior leaders inability to admit mistakes or make business critical decisions when so badly needed, and being a private company with public subsidiary.
