Pros

Good benefits It's a large company, so if you know people, there are a lot of different job opportunities Good co-workers

Cons

There is no work life balance in claims Consistently over worked and underappreciated Upper management seems to have no idea what claims adjusters have to deal with and how rigorous the job can be Poor pay compared to other companies

Pros

Better pay than other insurance companies Good number of vacation days Nice benefits package Complete annual health assessments and they deposit money into a HSA card to help pay for medical expenses

Cons

The longer you work for this company, they less valued you are The bar keeps rising making it impossible to move up in the company. Because the bar is so high, you have no personal life because you can't complete the job requirements in a full work day. If you are good at what you do, management doesn't want to see you leave their unit in order to progress. (Lots of turn over in claims and hard to find decent people who can do the job). If you are salaried, you end up working lots of overtime and don't get paid for it. You can't get the job done without working excessive hours. The older you get, the more you are treated like you don't know how to do your job anymore. Seems to be a trend as this is happening to push the older crowd out and bring in the fresh new meat.

White guy over the age 50

Pros

Nationwide is a great company, and I was trained very well. I felt respected, had a great deal of institutional knowledge, and worked in a lot of different departments.

Cons

Stop disrespecting people over 50, especially white men. I reached 54 and suddenly I couldn't tie my shoes correctly - this is the way to treat people who have been dedicated to the company for many years.
