Pros

-Best product on the market -Used to have amazing benefits before Covid -Potential to make good money IF you are one of the select few "golden children" given all the best accounts.

Cons

-Hypergrowth and greed killed the culture more than a year ago. TA followed the path of another Andreeson-Horowitz venture...Zenefits. -Most of the executive staff are from other startups that rose too quickly then fizzled out as well. 90% of the marketing team that remain are former friends and colleagues the CMO brought in from her days at MongoDB or Docusign. The same CMO who was all over social media encouraging people to keep traveling at the height of the epidemic, and who's grand strategy to navigate out of these rough times was to create a "send a paper airplane to a friend" campaign, which was absurd to say the least. Now its nothing but promotions for webinars to discuss how the industry will someday come back, and to flout their "safety tools", which are nothing more than maps of hot spots with the virus to avoid. I can only imagine what she and others are being paid for these brilliant ideas while hundreds of much, much lower-paid employees were laid off 2 months ago. -Comp plans have been a disaster since forever. New CRO (another bring-on by the CMO) rules by fear and favorites, and the old CRO has been demoted so many times no one even knows what his role is anymore. -Management likes to promote the notion that TA is a "darling of Silicon Valley", when in reality they have a national reputation at this point for overly aggressive, heavy-handed selling . They'd prefer to risk losing the deal and trust of the client just to make numbers for a month or quarter than work on the client's timeline and possible gain a happy customer for years to come. -In a nutshell, overhiring, overspending, big egos and greed have brought down what was once an amazing, family-like atmosphere with the best of intentions to transform an antiquated industry. Do yourself a favor and find a company to work for that values longevity over quick riches, and can actually weather a down economy without gutting the staff and eliminating some truly loyal and hard-working individuals.

Pros

The people you get to work with

Cons

There's been a lot of changes since I first started. What began as a fun, caring, and great culture quickly turned into an environment of fear and unachievable goals mainly due to TAs hyper growth. To be clear, a lot of the issues started well before COVID. Once COVID broke out, we began to see the real colors of our leadership team as they became more and more desperate. All the values they preached of was literally thrown out the window. Most of the negative reviews are accurate and play along the same themes: - Layoffs: Yes, there was a huge round of layoffs where we lost a lot of great people. However, before that, people were constantly placed on PIPs with no real direction of why and unrealistic goals. Because of this, we saw high turn overs. Once our new CRO joined, we did away with PIPs and people were let go without any warning in mass. People were even let go while they were still ramping... - Favoritism: This runs true here. A degree of this is common in all companies - however, I would say it's much worse here. It seems that a lot of the early employees have moved up the ladder without any real leadership experience. This creates a blind leading the blind environment. There's never an equal opportunity to interview to move up as these decisions are made behind closed doors. - Work Life balance: is non existent. You're expected to work through the evenings and on weekends. We used to have a perk that was a recharge day every month, however, it was frowned upon when you actually took it. Our CRO and managers suggests that we work on the weekends to start planning for our pipe generation efforts. TripActions is not a SaaS tool. Be prepared to be a desperate sales person and give it away for free. If the customer doesn't launch, your commission is clawed back. Unrealistic goals are set my managers and AEs are constantly pressured to sell the platform, while our customers are dealing with a pandemic and travel ban. Things have been going down hill for a while and now with the current travel climate, things will only get worse. Run far far away from TA.

Thank you for your candid feedback. I recognize that while hyper growth was exciting, the company didn’t do everything right. In some cases, the company’s processes did not keep up. The COVID period has indeed been challenging so far and I suspect it will continue to be so in the near future. I am proud however, that we have adjusted sales targets to be based on metrics that are achievable in the current period while there isn’t much business travel. It’s true that I am not a fan of Performance Improvement Plans because I believe feedback should be given constantly and in real-time. I do believe in honest feedback (both directions), operating with transparency and investing in people to help them realize their potential. These are key to making merit-based decisions which benefit everyone involved. Also, I am committed to TripActions delivering the best sales enablement in the industry. We (myself included) are not perfect in these areas, but we are fully committed to the pursuit and are making significant strides. I value your feedback and appreciate your contributions over these last 3-4 years. I’d welcome the opportunity to discuss these or any other issues with you one-on-one. We would probably both learn some things and make the company even better. - Carlos

Pros

Good benefits and free lunches if you would rather have that then get paid commission.

Cons

Where to begin? If you are in sales stay far away. This is not a SaaS company as much as their recruiters will try and tell you it is. The platform is great, but you’re a glorified travel agent and will not make any money here. Things really took a turn for the worst when they hired a new chief revenue officer (the old one who was excellent was demoted - even though he had grown the company by 5,000%): this is a case study in how micro management, firing sales reps with no notice, and having a commission structure that is not even remotely catered towards allowing your reps to hit their OTE can cause discontent and attrition. This ship was sinking even before the COVID-19 pandemic allowed the C Suite to have an excuse to lay off 40% of the company - including the entire Chicago office and employees who uprooted their lives to move from California to Illinois. Having a great product and offering your employees some stock options can only compensate for horrific management for so long.

Thank you for your candid feedback. Leadership changes are never easy for an organization. I do recognize that some things may have become more challenging in recent months -- both due to COVID-19 and as we work to improve sales execution and our productivity. I am proud that we have adjusted sales targets to be based on metrics that are achievable in the current period while there isn’t much business travel. We will continue to monitor this and make reasonable adjustments. It was quite a difficult decision to reduce our global workforce (RIF was just under 25%, actually). And this did include closing our Chicago office which we’d opened recently. While difficult and painful for all parties -- especially the impacted employees, the layoffs were the right decision to ensure we are organized optimally to serve customers and travelers long into the future. And I’m glad that several of the Chicago team members accepted our offer to relocate to other TripActions offices. Again, thank you for sharing your feedback and sorry we weren’t able to discuss directly while you were still at TripActions. - Carlos
