Pros

- small company with smart workforce and young leaders - flat organization means CEO, CFO, VPs sit right next to you - language and analytical skills used daily by all and sponsored - 401K matching, competitive medical, commuter benefits - great hours, as long as the work gets done you get your flex-friday - flexibility to work from home or from Colorado or Europe if necessary - mix of think tank with hands on learning and public policy - stimulating work that after three to five years, sets you up for international Gigs/USAID/State - promotes publishing and sponsors international conference attendance - various direct customer interaction including presentation - direct impact on customer policy, deliverables and direction of the company

Cons

- company hit a rough patch in 2014 with the loss of two contracts - management tried to keep as many as possible, but the government is the client - company management was reduced to minimum, but got better in 2016 - lingering resentment from staff due to 2014 triage - small company means there is no safety net, when it rains it pours

Pros

As many others have said, a smart and motivated workforce. In the past, a challenging and stimulating work environment, but by the time I left this no longer felt true.

Cons

Morale is dangerously low throughout the workforce; many analysts who were once excited to come to work now feel resentful or simply resigned, given the company's apparent inability to address the systemic problems described below and in previous reviews. I know from multiple conversations with my former colleagues at Navanti that claims about unequal pay for women are absolutely true. But this is just one important symptom of a wider problem; I could cite many instances of both implicit and explicit sexism at Navanti. As a man, sexist comments by a few managers made me feel uncomfortable on multiple occasions -- so I can't imagine how much more worse this was for my female colleagues. Multiple managers have left the company in the past few months and have not been replaced. In part as a result of this, but also due to general disarray, those remaining managers with any interest in getting the company on a better path are clearly overworked. As a result, communication is frequently horrendous. Analysts are regularly told different or even directly contradictory things by different managers. The overwhelming mood in most meetings is one of disorganization and haphazardness. Managers don't have the time to give employees anywhere near enough guidance and support. Questions go unanswered. Problems go unresolved. I've lost count of how many analysts have proactively left Navanti over the course of the year, in most cases without being replaced. A majority of current analysts are actively looking for work or twiddling their thumbs while a pending offer is finalized. The quality of Navanti's work has declined noticeably due to understaffing, terrible communication, and abysmal morale. This is not to say that every product is bad -- some remain impressive as a result of analyst talent and effort -- but the average quality is significantly brought down by some truly poor work. I'm embarrassed by some of the reports that have recently gone out the door. Management is either unaware of this, doesn't care, or assumes the problem can somehow be resolved when the company is on firmer financial footing. It can't. These are systemic problems with cumulative impacts as they remain unaddressed. On multiple occasions, Navanti overpromised and under-budgeted in order to get a foot in the door with new clients. This is perhaps understandable, but after analysts and some good middle managers work extremely hard to make good on these promises, the company seems unable to parlay that success into more sustainable work conditions or in some cases into any future work at all. In their eagerness to please clients, management pushes analysts to the breaking point by urging them to overdeliver far beyond the scope of a given project, or by unexpectedly demanding sample work be created for potential clients -- again, all perhaps defensible if it yielded results, but so often it doesn't.

Pros

Great coworkers, fun team experience. I made some great friends with some really smart people working here.

Cons

Just completely out of touch on the upper levels. The BD and exec staff is completely out of sync with Navanti's strengths and what keeps the funding going--that or they have no program management skills.
