      Folks who come to work there often stick and stay for a long time because, in my experience, the company is open to finding ways for smart people to contribute. Of course this varies department by department, but on the whole, the NYT is committed to quality and the overall success of its employees.

      Cons

      It can be tough to stand out in a crowd of standouts. So it's critical and healthy for folks to use a steel-sharpens-steel mentality to survive and thrive there.

      The work culture is amazing—it's the best I’ve ever experienced. The company’s mission is important and makes it easier to enjoy work even during tough times. It’s a large, open organization where you can connect with people from many different teams and skill sets.

      The best thing about the times is the people—some of the smartest journalists, photographers, editors, and designers I have worked with. Seeing the work of your colleagues makes you want to do better.

      There can definitely be egos and personality clashes—experiences vary by what desk you’re on and who your editor is.
