Pros

Having The Times on your resume opens a lot of doors, and with good reason: Managers in any industry recognize the name-brand value of The New York Times and know that you were learning the best practices in the industry from the best practitioners. The newspaper industry is facing tough times, but no company is better positioned to adapt than The New York Times Company. Although it is public and therefore vulnerable to a takeover like that of Dow Jones, it is a name brand that commands respect in any medium. Advertising and circulation are big question marks, but the newsroom is top notch.

Cons

It is demanding, and one must live within commuting distance of Midtown Manhattan. The cost of living is ridiculously high.
