Pros

Great product, brand name and reputation. Looks nice on the resume. Good mix of people - old timers, newspaper vets, new media folks.

Cons

The company has been struggling of late and has instituted far-reaching salary cuts (or furloughs) and layoffs. Job security and career advancement are not guaranteed at this point.

The prestige will take you to other places. There is a sense of being part of the best journalism being done in the world.

Cons

The pay is not competitive for freelancers. The different sections do not communicate with one another. There is innovation and stagnation at the same time.

Pros

I feel that my direct managers recognize my abilities and have rewarded me to the extent of their power. I've gotten great feedback, and recognition of my contribution and value to the company, which is good to hear even if it can't be completely rewarded with compensation. My managers are extremely understanding when someone needs to take time off.

Cons

The newspaper business is a failing business, and I don't believe that my increases have been or will be as great as maybe others have been in the past, when business was better. Although, I am confident that my job is secure, in these times you can never be completely comfortable.
