Pros

Everyone in the newsroom was integral to the final product, and it was gratifying for me to know that i played a part every day in something that was truly important to the world.

Cons

The way information travels in the world is changing rapidly -- the times was too slow to adapt and not influential enough to alter the effects of changing times. It's a shame but I feel like I was part of a dying industry that had used up its life lines.

Pros

some groups (e.g. digital) are great at encouraging developers to try new things in our spare time (e.g. prototypes of new technologies). It's not an "enterprise-y" culture, i.e. we're free to use open source tools like mongodb, memcache, etc.

Cons

Some groups (e.g. corporate IT) are stuck in 1985. It can be incredibly frustrating dealing with some "Application Specialist" whose primary job skill is restarting a Lotus Notes server.
