Pros

Some of the greatest minds in journalism are at The Times. There are many opportunities to move around if you find you want to work on a different desk. Most positions in the newsroom are unionized, so base pay is high and the union can represent you in any issues relating to pay, reviews, etc. Health insurance is top of the line.

Cons

Management is disorganized. Performance reviews are often delayed or reminders have to be given. Most positions in the newsroom are unionized, so you are beholden to scheduling rules. Senior staff editors can't be paid for overtime and have to take comp time unless they work on a different desk.

Pros

Great people work for the Times. They are smart, driven, and dedicated. The Times is a trusted institution which carries a strong name brand.

Cons

There are constant layoffs and the organization is very top heavy. Very little room for growth, and morale takes a hit when the company is still fairly dependent on print revenue.

Pros

The NYT is the newspaper of record. It is a world-class institution transitioning to the digital era. There are many employee perks.

Cons

On the business side, promotions and pay raises are rare. Projects take a long time to complete and lose momentum pretty quickly.
