Pros

* Great culture produces great people. The culture in Nextdoor is more gentle than a lot of hard-charging startups. Here people treat each other like how neighbors should treat each other. Most people are genuine, and I made several friends that I hope friendship can be life-long. * Work-life balance. This is something really rare in startups this size and stage. I feel comfortable working from home whenever I need. And taking a vacation is not something I feel uncomfortable doing. * Meaningful work. There are many startups in Silicon Valley with great valuation and product, but it's rare to find a product with a strong mission to be helpful to people. A lot of people come to Nextdoor because of this, and that makes the culture unique.

Cons

* As the company grows, there are more and more cases when talking overtakes doing. It's different team by team, but for some team, the culture is going down. People who do the most talking get the most visibility, instead of people who actually do the work. * No clear career path for more responsibility. It's rare or impossible to find someone younger than 30 taking on a leadership position. Unless in a small org. * Engineering leadership is not strong enough to take the product to the next level, at least for some teams. Nextdoor has good engineers, but not enough architects who have the capability to take some team to the next level. However, there are definitely teams within Nextdoor that are excellent technically. * Location is less than ideal. Let's just put it this way. Civic Center station has probably one of the highest concentration of homeless, and it literally has a poop crisis. You have to look down on the street all the time to avoid stepping on something. But you can never avoid the smell. Getting to work feels like a survival game sometimes. And Nextdoor is staying here for the foreseeable future.
