Pros

- Kind-hearted, talented coworkers who are willing to collaborate. - Company's mission to make the world a kinder place by giving people a neighborhood they can rely on. - Opportunities to take ownership and have an impact on important parts of the product - The first team I joined was great! The culture was low pressure and non-competitive while at the same time high-performing. My manager was empathetic and gave me great opportunities to grow as an engineer. I loved the team culture but ultimately switched to another team because the product I was working on was not the right fit.

Cons

- The second team I joined was a new team. The product vision on this team felt a bit scattered and our teammates were constantly being pulled to work on unrelated projects that diverted focus from the main product. The culture on this team felt a lot more high-pressure. There was a pressure to show off and demonstrate that you were working fast, and the deadlines consistently felt too ambitious. - The iOS engineer community felt a bit political. It felt like some of the senior iOS engineers had large egos, and you had to kiss up in order to remain in their good graces. iOS coops did not feel like a comfortable space for junior engineers to contribute. It felt like mostly a space for senior engineers to present and discuss best practices while junior engineers for the most part stayed silent. - While I love Nextdoor's mission to promote kindness, it was disappointing to observe how, in actuality, users of the product are often spreading negativity.

Pros

I have been working at Nextdoor for just a few months but so far, things have been great! Everyone is so inclusive, warm and helpful! It seems that everyone really embodies our purpose to creater a kinder world where everyone has a neightborhood (workplace) they can rely on. I've truly enjoyed my time so far and am excited for the future!

Cons

I haven't experienced any major downsides to working at Nextdoor yet, however it's slightly difficult to cultivate a strong rapport with my team because of onboarding virtually. I believe this will change once we are back in the office but right now I feel slightly removed from my team due to remote work.

Hi new Neighbor! Welcome to the team - we hope your experience continues to be positive. It's hard to adjust to a new team in a remote environment, but hopefully you're able to take part in some fun virtual activities soon! Looking forward to having you join us in the office!
