Pros

- good culture - good location -met a lot of good friends

Cons

- pay is HORRIBLE - they tell you you can make so much money in your first year which is a lie - pretty much required to work late nights and weekends - your sales director will most likely be inadequate - zero room for growth - way more corporate than it used to be

Pros

Does pays well for the Seattle area. Bonus is nice.

Cons

There is a lot of favoritism that goes on here. If you are an outsider it can be hard to move up. I have had at least two managers tell me they would only hire someone from the sales floor. Seems to be a big deal at Nordstrom to have worked on the sales floor there. I am not the only one to point this out. Other outsiders have said the same to me. Its very passive aggressive, a lot of negative talk goes on behind peoples back. This didn't just happen to me, I heard it going on about others as well. Seems that this kind of negative attitude is acceptable there. Can also have a mean girls attitude as well. I even spoke to HR about this and it was pretty much dismissed. I'm not saying all pods have mean girls, but people lover to have their egos stroked there, so you need to be a good kiss up if you want to do well and move up. That can be more important then doing a good job. I have worked for other well know companies and have never experienced such entitlement and negativity.

Pros

Decent discount. I want so badly to list more, but can't think of any. I would stay at Nordstrom if I felt that I have been valued or heard. But while leadership claims to have an open door policy, and does a very good impression of listening to employees, it is truly just for show. When I started at Nordstrom, I was so excited to work with an old company that was determined to adjust for a contemporary audience. But infighting, instability, and a gloomy atmosphere soon had me looking for a new job with a company that values my contributions. I can't wait to leave.

Cons

Petty, gossipy upper management. Nepotism at the highest levels. Cliques that make life miserable for some people who aren't "in." Top-heavy org chart with the squeakiest wheels (but not always the most skills) at the tippy-top--witness the creative VP appointment, a shocking misjudgment. Reverence for social connections that outweighs creative or business contributions. Troubling lack of ethnic diversity. Few females in C-level positions. A boys' club that makes hiring and promotion decisions based on personal preference. An org that changes about once per year. Rampant disorganization. Awful morale.
