Pros

Incredible growth potential, ability to help build and develop a company, opportunity for professional and personal growth at every stage of your career, culture and colleagues second to none, a true meritocracy that rewards strong performance and passion. Work hard, ask for help when you need it, continue to improve and the sky is the limit.

Cons

Sales is not for everyone, expectations are high and the job is hard. The stylist role is not a typical hourly retail position. You will be asked to build a book of business, foster relationships with your clients and continuously grow. Traditional work-life balance (on from 9-5, off from 5-9) is not realistic, but effectively integrating the job into your daily life is.

Who's In Charge?

Pros

This is a great place to work if you are all about building relationships and getting ahead because of those relationships rather than your achievements It's a great place to work if you like to dive into projects without taking the time to plan There is a discount for Nordstrom clothes for employees

Cons

Leadership is very confused and changes course each year. In the eight years I was there, millions of dollars were wasted and thousands of hours were wasted because of the inability of leadership to derive a meaningful definition of success for IT and establish a portfolio of projects prioritized to get IT to that successful place. Instead, those in charge relied on buzz words to make themselves feel successful and important and shopped for the latest in shiny products, which were custom implemented (read: hobbled) so that boxes could be checked off. The recent coup has assured that any old blood is gone and indicates that Nordstrom is intent on changing from a culture of work/life balance to one more like the fast-paced cut-throat technology companies it now feels like it's competing with.

You're not re-inventing the wheel

Pros

Office design is impeccable and the brands the company works with are high quality and stylish. The creativity begins and ends there.

Cons

Honestly, Trunk Club is stale. It's being worked to death and any opportunity for creativity and fresh perspective from it's employees is gone. It's a machine operating by over-worked and under-paid employees who for better or worse just increase the energy bill month over month for keeping the lights on. No room for improvement, no voices to be heard, no way to really make an impact at the company. In it's uber-like ideal to grow the business to $1B it's lost sight of what's really important and valuable. The people.
