Great benefits including education, low entry salary, high turnover, lots of red tape
Pros
Northeastern is a great place to work mainly because of the benefits. In addition to having your tuition waived as an employee, education is also free for your spouse and children, upon acceptance to the University. The costs of health, dental and vision insurance are very affordable. Employees are also given every major holiday off, flex hours during the summer (as determined by their department), a paid week off between Christmas and New Years in addition to their accrued vacation, sick and personal time. Overall, this is a great place to work if you need more work-life balance and if you are starting or caring for a family. It's also great for recent graduates to continue their education while getting real world experience after graduation.
Cons
From my experience working on the administrative side of the University, there is a lot of red tape here, for no reason. Colleges and offices compete with one another, rather than working together toward a common goal. The salary paid is low, and for staff or low professional grade levels, they are not willing to negotiate. Even when superiors have requested raises for the department, they are rarely, if ever, given. Unlike the corporate world, high risk does not equal high reward. The interoffice politics are suffocating at times, but a reality of working here.
