Good workers, poor management

Pros

A lot of very smart, and very motivated people. Pay is good, it's adjusted for the cost of living. Very easy to get to from almost anywhere in the state. Great benefits including health care, tuition reimbursement and insurance benefits. Great divisional management who are dedicated and treat employees with resepect.

Cons

Almost no opportunity for upward advancement. Even as someone who has worked here for 4 years, it's almost impossible to get an interview internally for another department. Parking is limited and expensive it's almost always easier to take public transit. All about the bottom line, upper management often could care less about students.

Amazing Faculty, Difficult Administration, Turn-Around Terror.

Pros

The faculty! Bright, engaging, grounded, approachable, impressive, real-world, friendly, professional and truly committed to empowering their students and advancing their specializations. They inspire me everyday.

Cons

Turn-around terror. Incompetent Sarah-Palin-style management have the best running for the door in certain groups. Arrogant senior leadership at the highest levels. Upwards of 45% of some professional units have fled during the last 12 months. This does not include the lightening lay-offs inspired by the new administration. More political than the statehouse. Transparency and open feedback are firmly discouraged. The mascot could be a white elephant. This is a shame - Northeastern is an amazing institution and has been a wonderful employer for me for many years. (I remain because I still want to send my teenagers to the university - a terrific benefit!) Great divisions and amazing people still exist, just make sure you do your homework.
