Large research university with an outstanding programming languages research department.

Cons

While the work as an undergraduate tutor is interesting, and helps you learn the material better, the grading assignments come irregularly in large clumps. You'll have no work one week, and then an unusually large amount of work the next.

Learned interesting things while working with a professor at northeastern, I developed algorithms to solve problems funded by NSF grants.

Cons

Because of limited funding, my assistanceship was not renewed, so my time was limited at the university. I felt this limited our ability to complete research

Pros

Location is great. Located on the MBTA commuter rail, Orange Line, and Green LIne, Northeastern is accessible from a variety of locations. There is also a large amount of parking available for those that drive.

Cons

From a research perspective, the university is lacking in funding and a commitment to support life sciences research. Simple core facilities such as autoclaves are always broken down and take weeks to repair. Laboratory space is inadequate, and funds to remodel space for successful investigators do not materialize. The support staff often does not take their job to support researchers seriously and seems to have serious issues with authority in addition to concerning lack of competency on several fronts (grants management, budgeting, safety and health).
