CSSH is literal hell

Pros

Good benefits, great coworkers. Commute is relatively easy

Cons

Please do not apply to roles at CSSH for your mental Heath and wellbeing. I am only providing feedback on the college of social sciences because I’m not sure how the other colleges function. The humanities is going through an identity crisis of sorts and being a college of humanities in a STEM oriented university where enrollment is driven by the other colleges, CSSH seems to have lost its footing. My personal experience of CSSH is that it is very badly run, extremely highly turnover with anyone other than faculty. This is a faculty driven culture so top leadership and Human Resources will cover up ANYTHING - and I mean any bad behavior exhibited by faculty. That pertains to bullying, sexual harassment and a slew of other items that in any other industry would be a fireable offense. Top leadership in partnership with HR have been known to retaliate against whistleblowers which again would be a fireable offense anywhere else but seems to exist just fine at CSSH. It puts employees in a dangerous position where there seems to be no structure in place to deal with badly behaved faculty or underperforming employees. CSSH is unnecessarily political. I have literally witnessed CSSH let extremely talented people resign because of ridiculous politics that faculty perpuate, in the name of protecting faculty, or just because they can’t be bothered trying to improve said environment for said employee. While other industries are trying to retain great hires, CSSH lets great employees go and replaces them with the most mediocre people and so CSSH is, with the help of their main HR lead, creating a culture of mediocrity. There are so many things I have seen which make me think CSSH is living in a bubble and needs a real wake up call. Please avoid working here if you value your sanity and mental health

Good job Great benefits

Pros

Benefits are great - retirement match & tuition remission There are some legitimately great people working here, a good manager can make or break a job. Just need to find a good manager.

Cons

Nonprofit that is run like a for-profit institution. Pay gap between leadership and most employees is massive. One of the highest paid university presidents in the US, but merit raises can't keep up with inflation. Also pushing return to office. No longer creating remote jobs.
