Pros

People I worked with were fantastic, university provided faculty raises every year during a time when many others were not, university is in a strong position moving forward (large number of applicants, co-op program, etc).

Cons

This university is undergoing a sometimes painful shift in culture from what was historically a private, teaching oriented, regional university to what they want to become: an internationally recognized, extremely competitive, research driven institution. This creates problems with tenure and promotion, that is, expectations at the upper levels of the university (provost) are a moving target. You begin with an understanding of what is expected but by the time you go up it is totally different. There are people here who have been granted tenure in the last 3-4 years who believe that if they went up today they would be denied, and they are probably right. Caveat lector: Scholarship is the ONLY thing that will matter. No matter how much you get told they expect excellent teaching, at the end of the day make sure that your scholarship is way, way above average.

Pros

Great place to learn new skills and launch a career related to higher ed.

Cons

Senior leadership is far from transparent and decisions are always made top-down. Constant hype about the "up-and-coming" university to secure employee buy-in. Fairly formal and rigid culture. High turnover rate in administrative offices. No employer matching contribution to retirement plan for the first 2-3 years.
