Pros

successful and stable company. While other companies have downsized or growth slowed over the last 5 years, NWA has grown. NWA expanded the office in Pasadena, CA and opened a new office in Las Vegas, NV. NWA has better than market benefits, especially the 401k plan (salaried staff). The benefits for the union employees are super great too—better than the salaried staff, I understand.

Cons

Some of the policies are not reflective of the Seattle area. NWA sees itself as a financial company, and the dress code is business professional to reflect that view. NWA has made some changes recently to loosen up but change happens slowly, especially when there is a lot business growth to focus on. As I read through the comments from others on Glassdoor, I’m a little taken back. Everyone knows before day 1 at NWA the policies. There is no “trickery” or “lying” just to get people to come to work here. NWA has doubled in size in the last 3 years…there are bound to be issues related to communication, training, etc. but the company seems to be focused on providing great service to their clients and making sure that employees are compensated fairly for the work they do. There are definitely some true statements on Glassdoor that I’ve experienced…I just think some of these “posters” are twisting the truth to create a negative view that isn’t 100% accurate (sour milk, perhaps?). During a period of time where so many companies closed or did layoffs, NWA did not. While other companies cut or eliminated benefits (like retirement benefits), NWA did not. While other companies withheld raises, NWA did not. If those things aren’t important to you, but texting versus working is…than you probably shouldn’t work here. Maybe I’ve been around the block one too many times and think that people should be more thankful for having a job. If employees think there is a problem with how the company is run…try and become part of the solution instead creating problems. Talk to supervisors, talk to managers, talk to VPs or HR. Talk to the President of the company. All are always available, and that’s another great thing about NWA.

Pros

Some middle and lower management employees who have been around for 30+ years. They are incredibly loyal and caring individuals who need some serious guidance.

Cons

Top Management hasn't broadened its horizons in 30 years. They have no idea how to communicate or empathize. Hiring another member of the silver spoon set didn't enhance management at all. Atmosphere is toxic.

We are incredibly proud of our loyal, long-term staff. In the month of June, over 25 employees celebrated 5 or more years at NWA. It should be no surprise that many of those employees would have positive things to say about their experience at NWA. We do not ask that employees post positive comments on our behalf.

Unemployment would almost be better.

Pros

Decent pay, okay benefits (the medical, if you know the subtleties of what makes medical insurance good, has actually been downgraded to pretty awful), pension. Lots of holidays.

Cons

Poor communication between departments, negative reinforcements to motivate employees, horrible work/life balance, dated and criminally ignorant approach to managing employees. The right hand NEVER knows what the left hand is doing - work duplication is so common it is laughable, which would be amusing if salary employees weren't pushed to work long hours to complete tasks. Hourly employees aren't much better off - mandatory overtime can be enforced at a moment's notice, regardless of your transit/childcare/other life obligations. This company sinks time and money into archaic practices in the name of employee morale - a Christmas lunch served to the people by upper management! A company wide race to donate to United Way! Prizes include winning the right to come to work for one day a year without the mandatory pantyhose or necktie! Sadly, they seem to miss what modern America's business force has discovered: allowing small freedoms and treating employees with respect actually garners a happier workforce, which indisputably increases productivity without major expense. It is shocking how aggressively NWA seeks to exploit it's union employees, being a third party administratior for union benefits. While upper management meets with it's client and talks the talk, behind closed doors employees are treated shamefully. Rather than sharing more anecdotes, I'll leave it at this - if you are a true union person, and believe in unions as a necessary force protecting the working class, you should not be doing business with this company. Sadly, the worst thing about this company is that you will most likely have to experience it for yourself. With it's above entry pay scale and attractive benefits, combined with the convenient location, people searching for an administrative position will flock to this company. NWA is banking on it - they pay higher for the right to avoid any reform from within, because employees are disposable. Once you're in, the gilded cage is firm. It will seem impossible to find other work as easily, with comparable pay. Before I managed to leave, I witnessed a nervous breakdown (literally) and another employee admit they started fantasizing about suicide, just to get away.

We are sorry you feel that way. NWA has earned a reputation for expertise in third-party administration services. We have a highly knowledgeable staff of benefit oriented professionals that interface with our clients to address their needs. We have established long-term, respectful working relationships with the predominant managed-care organizations. We believe our list of satisfied, long-term clients is the best testimonial to our commitment to excellence. In addition, we have an incredibly low employee turnover rate of 5.4% in 2014. We believe this statistic speaks for itself.
