Pros

Competitive benefits. Free lunch.

Cons

Northwestern Mutual was once a great company to work for. New leadership has taken over and the company is a much more chaotic place to work. Now the company works with the mentality that layoffs will be ongoing as they are always looking for places to cut. Benefit have been cut quite substantially although are still competitive. They used to be some of the best in the market. The company is trying to run like a startup (constant layoffs and reorgs), but with struggles to invest the necessary money to maintain and upgrade out of legacy technology.

Pros

Nice facilities, free lunch, new technology Booted Emilia S. (good luck KKR, you're gonna need it)

Cons

Blatant Age Discrimination. Layoffs hit over age 40 and majority were outstanding performers. (EEOC violation?) Massive outsourcing (India) - transient workforce, not dedicated. "Lord of the Flies Culture" replaced "do the right thing" culture.

Pros

Many of the remaining employees are good people.

Cons

Company continues to outsource and offshore a majority of the technical jobs. Those who remain are too scared to speak their mind creating a culture of compliance and not commitment. There is a lot of talk about flattening the organization yet all senior leaders remain. Still very unclear why they are offshoring jobs when we had the talent. Most who lost there job are over 40 and the new building is catering to the younger crowd. Leadership does not deny this. Shameful what they are doing to the local milwaukee workers . Dying company in a dying industry.
