Pros

Good information sharing and also recognition when you do a good job. Comprehensive process that covers most all possible insurance needs

Cons

If you don't go full-time its a waste because they keep the business and over 2/3 don't make it full-time.

Pros

Good support from managers and mentors

Cons

If you can't network, don't try this job. Must have the ability to close deals. Oh and you better believe in whole life insurance cause thats just about the only product NML has that is competitive.

Pros

Northwestern Mutual is a great place to learn about what it takes to sell life insurance. Training starts of well and most people are friendly and helpful. I worked there for two years. If you like what you do AND you do what management tells you to do everyday you can be very successful in this business.

Cons

At Northwestern Mutual you are not on the path to be a well rounded financial advisor, you are a seller of their Whole Life insurance and only do investments if the client expects it. otherwise its a hassle and management will frown on you not focusing on life insurance. Nearly all of Northwestern Mutual in the sales/mgr field will try to turn everyones situation into one that can be solved with Whole Life insurance no matter where they are in life. Most educated certified financial planners only recommend whole life in certain isolated situations not around every corner. After your first year most of your training will be how to sell Whole Life. I don't think Whole Life is all that bad its just not the answer to everything.
