Pros

It still has some great products

Cons

Since the merger all legacy Nova senior leadership has been removed, leaving no institutional knowledge or expertise. This is especially concerning in areas like R&D and medical affairs

Pros

Generally speaking, colleagues are friendly and most people want to do a good job. The company manufactures medical devices, and people take that responsibility seriously.

Cons

Senior management is comprised of older loyalists who won't rock the boat or do anything to change so modernizing is not possible. There is no room to grow if you are outside the "old boys club". Nepotism is rampant, despite all the grumblings about "only hire the best candidate" for a job. Management is very right-wing politically and make no effort to keep those opinions private. Despite having rules about no political signs in your work area, the boss's relative can proudly display a "Let's go Brandon" sign in his office.

Pros

Some departments have great people and balance work-life well. At least on the bio side, products are unmatched in the industry which makes living relatively easy, compared to other companies with more direct competition. Also, if you're a good employee, you leave, and then in the future want to come back, Nova holds zero grudge about it; even some senior managers have left and returned. In my experience, very few companies feel that way about former employees. Overall, I really look back fondly on my time at Nova, but that was mostly due to my direct manager and colleagues who became true friends that I continue to keep in touch with to this day. The pay was better than my last job, but it doesn't increase substantially once you're there. If you're decent at your job, you can basically stay there forever and get hollow 'promotions' and minor raises with those promotions (think 5%, not 10+) with no real substantial changes in your job description.

Cons

Salaries are low compared to industry averages (I got an almost 50% raise when I left, from low-paid to high-paid for my position, if that gives better clarity). The company is also very old-school in that it still requires 5 days in the office. If you're field-based, forget about moving up within the organization. A good percentage of the founders of the company still work there on a daily basis, so that should give you an idea of how much change they like. I think when the old guard retires, things might get better, but time will tell. The company is also conservative, politically and socially, which to me was weird for a Massachusetts-based company and made me uncomfortable at lunch when things would inevitably come up.
