Pros

I've worked with Nurturing Wisdom for three years as a tutor and one year as a tutoring coach, and it's a great company to work for. I'll talk here about my experiences as a tutor. One of the things that immediately struck me with Nurturing Wisdom was the amount of support they offer. From curriculum to materials, I never felt lost because I always had people backing me up. My first student was an ACT student, and when I looked at the ACT curriculum, I was a bit nervous because of how extensive it is. However, as soon as I got matched my coach reached out to me to set up a call to walk me through all of the lessons and materials I would need to use. After the call, I felt like I really understood how to effectively tutor the ACT using Nurturing Wisdom's methodologies and would be able to hit the ground running with my first student. I also really enjoyed having coaching sessions with my tutoring coach. I was able to ask her to model some lessons and techniques that I wanted to see how an experienced tutor would use. Another aspect of this support is the fact that tutoring directors set tutors up with students. I always felt like they chose students for me that were good personality matches, which made tutoring very enjoyable. Overall, I think this is a great company to tutor for. In addition to what I mentioned above, you get to manage your own schedule and travel, so it can be a very easy job to do when you have other commitments.

Cons

I mentioned in the pros that you can manage your own schedule and travel, but this can be a bit o a double edged sword. If you're not careful about looking ahead and seeing where you're travelling and when your students are finishing up in each area, you can end up in situations where you are travelling far for only one student. Also, when I first started the outside of tutoring work (reports, etc . . .) was a bit much, but I know that NW is working actively to streamline these processes.

Pros

Nurturing Wisdom was an absolutely amazing company to work for. I left to pursue my career as a classroom teacher, and I do not think I would be the teacher that I am today if it weren't for Nurturing Wisdom. I learned so many skills to customizing education to students that I am able to apply in my classroom. Among the numerous pros, I would include: -supportive staff focused on helping each team member grow -flexibility to create your own schedule -well-planned and research-based curriculum -all tutors and administrators focused on student success -numerous opportunities for growth within the company I would absolutely work for this company again!

Cons

You must drive to clients' homes, although this comes with the territory of being an in-home tutor. It did help me create a close relationship with each family I worked with, however.
