Octapharma used to be closed on Thanksgiving and New Years but are now open on both holidays. This is largely due to donors complaining and "business needs" and the company's desire to get as much money as possible. They don't care that employees are already exhausted and unhappy. We want to be with our families on holidays too. They seem to gradually make things more and more miserable as time goes on. They take for granted the highly taxing verbal abuse that staff takes from plasma donors, who are often rude and unreasonable people. They care more about pleasing donors and getting money than making their employees happy. There are "points" for attendance. If you get sick or have an emergency you are punished by receiving a "point." You can only have a few points per time period. It's rare to see someone work at Octapharma for over a year because of the conditions. The pay is poor compared to other plasma centers, especially considering the people we deal with and the sheer amount of work. Meetings start at 6 am. All of these things lead to high stress and low morale. Corporate needs to check themselves and start thinking about their employees.
