Pros

There is an environment of caring, they really want to make sure things get done right. Benefits have improved over time. They offer Domestic Partner benefits which shows their willingness to be competitive in the market.

Cons

It is a large organization, and not for profit, so sometimes change happens slowly

Pros

Like a lot of volunteering work, you get to give back something good to the community. Besides that, you get to network with people within your volunteering environment.

Cons

You will have to read the volunteer handbook very carefully to protect yourself especially if you are not medically trained. I have experienced nurses on the floor asking me to change bedsheets of patients (could be highly contaminated) and to enter into the rooms of patients in isolation. If you are thinking of getting a professional recommendation for your work as a volunteer for job search or a job opportunity within the organization, the chances would be very minimal because as soon as you have stopped volunteering, your effort will be dismissed. They are not allowed to provide any professional reference to volunteers because we are not employees of Grant.
