I lucked in to having the only good manager that was there. He was the only positive part of working for OSU and the only reason I stayed as long as I did.

Cons

No department knows what they're doing or cares to learn. It's very common (for employees and students needing help) to bounce from one department to another and another then back to the first when trying to find information. Pay is much lower than any other part time job on campus.

Good department support for instructors VAP pay is good, as are benefits Classrooms well equipped with technology

Cons

OSU is the poster child for the things academia is doing wrong - lowering admissions standards to drive record enrollment, while at the same time cutting full-time faculty positions. Fill the classrooms with wash-outs and hire low-cost adjuncts to teach them - who cares if they fail out, since you didn't invest much in teaching them? Pair this with administrative bloat and an unlimited budget for the football team (while the academic departments have to beg for scraps, money-wise), and OSU rounds out the gamut of sucky stuff in academia. Your department itself will likely be full of great people, and your work will be very enjoyable. But the people above you are NOT working in your interest, or that of your students.

I struggled a lot with getting paid $1100 after tax with all the living expenses, etc.
