Pros

You are absolutely surrounded by some very smart individuals. There is opportunity to learn some very helpful skills to start your career.

Cons

This firm is not revommended if you are not a consultant. As a non-consultant there is no career growth. Consultants are given opportunities that should be given to support professionals who have the degrees and experience to actually launch and execute successful programs and initiatives. Support professionals have very little option for career development.

Pros

Great colleagues, well rounded and extremely intelligent group of individual contributors. No one person a "weak link". Lots of connectivity among and between incoming "classes" across the firm. Small enough to really get to know partners well at the smaller offices. I made lifelong friends out of my time there.

Cons

No work life balance. Talent from exclusively top tier schools, so little variation in thought and socio-economic status. Crazy hours, but typical at every consulting and legal firm. Expect to see colleagues at work 11-12 hours a day consistently. Big money and business = machine. lack of commitment to real trajectory for employees at ALL levels, not just consulting staff.

Great place to work

Pros

Relaxed, collegial and social culture with intellectually engaging work and fantastic opportunities. Consultants rapidly take on more responsibility, particularly when we are super busy. Vacations are honored and consultants have the ability to take unpaid leave in addition to their paid vacation.

Cons

Like all consulting firms, the hours can be long and the travel can be grueling. Oliver Wyman probably involves more travel that its competitors since we operate regionally rather than locally. (The benefit is greater connectedness across offices.)
