Apathy Abounds

Pros

The comp is decent. Bryant Park is nearby. Employees behave in a very professional manner. And there is a lot of diversity here. Its a great place if you like the color blue or baseball.

Cons

There is this growing sense that people don't care anymore. Most newer employees that came droves are also leaving in droves, while veterans choose to stick it out. Even the veterans are starting to show some cracks. Many people join because they think they will get a chance to do something impactful and meaningful, but end up doing menial work. In general, you can't shake the feeling that much of the company is being held together by smoke and mirrors.

Pros

The work schedule here is not too hectic. Teams have the freedom to choose the technology stack they feel comfortable using. The company is focused on increasing efficiency and agility. A very customer centric company.

Cons

It's very difficult to see how one can climb the corporate ladder. Seems like good oratory skills are rewarded more than actual contributions to the company. Lot's of decisions are made by people are not close to front lines of engineering. As a result a lot of odd and awkward decisions are made which result in waste. Many times projects were launched only to be shutdown so that a shortcut could be taken instead. After IPO, a lot of effort is spent on becoming compliant, so it feels like we are quickly losing ground to our competitors on the innovation front. Space is a constant issue for the company. It's an old problem, which seems will never be resolved. The company is not performing as well as it used to. Despite this fact, the executives continue to collect hefty bonuses and stock option compensation while everyone else has their bonuses cut. Unfortunately, it's a problem that endemic to most corporations, sadly this place is not much different.
