Disappointing

Pros

Pay, location, and some people are genuinely awesome.

Cons

Biggest disappointment is the way of working, there’re no processes in place, no design reviews and no acknowledgement for ideas and don’t even think about suggesting using new technologies. Any suggestion to an old timer would most likely be ignored with high probability of getting yelled at. I don’t who come up with the product delivery timeline specially when the product doesn’t even exist. Most of the time there’re no design specs, if they there are any then most likely will be in few people’s head. There’s no concept of putting some effort to come up design requirements and doing some prototypes first. 100% chance that the first prototype will be packaged in the product. There’s is zero inter and intra departmental communication. There’s always a turf war of who’s leading and managing. As I said biggest disappointment is the way of working. You won’t succeed if coming from a somewhat structured company.

Pros

None that I would think of actually.

Cons

Management would not listen to their engineers even when engineers were to feedback something else about their peers or issue on the ground. No real progression that can be seen in the company as well. Management would say that there is some training that is being planned but nothing to set in stone. We would just be waiting and going about our daily life. Field service are exposed to online training without the hands on experience. Management then deem that we would all be experts are the online courses. Understand that no traveling is allowed during COVID times but no sympathy / empathy from the management regarding the situation on the ground and how the lack of hands on experience would deter our progression in learning. Field service are also constantly exposed to the wrath of the customers and management do not update the customers beforehand. Lots of information are not pumped down properly. Do join at your own risk.

Thank you for the feedback. Onto has been developing core progression planning, and training programs diligently over the past 6 months. We are excited to share our new initiatives. One of the most difficult aspects of growth, and the incredible market demand for our products is the adjacent demand on our amazing professionals. We have built a strong talent acquisition team over the past six months, and are hiring more quickly than ever before. We will not stop until we have established a great balance between our professionals and their personal lives. With that said I would encourage anyone feeling un-supported to speak with our People and Culture Team. We are committed to a healthy work/life balance!
