Pros

Optiver has been a great place to work. The environment is competitive and friendly. You're given the tools and opportunities to succeed. Even when faced with a difficult challenge, it's been easy to get help and ideas from my teammates and coworkers. I've never felt like there was a problem we couldn't solve. Almost every week brings a new, interesting challenge and my technical skills have grown as I've worked on them. I've found the work-life balance to be well-established, and never felt pressure to stay late or on weekends. My coworkers are friendly, intelligent, and dedicated. My boss (and his boss) value quality solutions, in-depth analysis, and an entrepreneurial spirit. I like the people I work with and enjoy working with them.

Cons

There are occasions that require after-hours or weekend work. This is avoided if possible, but, if not, is at least scheduled in advance. When I have needed to stay late or come in early, it's been very easy to shorten my hours on another day to compensate. There are some times the office feels short-staffed. There are a few areas of ownership that are outside my job description and primary interest, but I'm still the best person for it. I know management is hiring to fill these positions, and, since I've started working, some of these responsibilities have been transferred to new hires.

Pros

Fantastic culture - Optiver invests a lot of time in ensuring that all new employees are not only technically brilliant, but culturally matched, which leads to a great feeling of camaraderie. Genuine collaboration - All teams, including trading, technology and business operations work as one, and it really makes a difference to both productivity and morale. The lack of red-tape also allows employees to see good ideas recognised and implemented quickly. Support and development - A team exists within HR which is dedicated to employee welfare and assisting employees reach their career goals. They help with leadership, communication, technical and other types of training and development. Leadership - The leadership team does a very good job of effectively moving the company in the right direction whilst never appearing arrogant or superior. They are very approachable, and integrate well with all employees. Perks - For me, the perks at Optiver are a nice addition to an already brilliant place to work. We are very well taken care of, with a team of chefs preparing breakfast and lunch free of charge every day, a gaming and chill out room, weekly massages, gym membership and outdoor fitness and sports clubs, annual company holiday, social events, the list goes on. Management also promote a good work/life balance, and we are encouraged to enjoy our time away from the office so that we can remain fresh and happy when we are here.

Cons

It's very difficult to think of anything to write here. The standard is very high, and everyone is very smart so it's important to be switched on in order to contribute - not really a con!

Pros

+ healthy atmosphere + open door policy + emphasis on clean, simple solutions to complex problems + excellent work life balance + a quorum of highly intelligent focused people in IT and trading

Cons

- some weaker middle management historically. This has now largely been rectified - aggressively high standards have left some teams stretched thin on staff
