Complete Chaos

Pros

Orica used to be a decent - not great but decent - place to work. Opportunities for advancement and most people were professional and ethical. Compensation like bonuses used to be pretty good.

Cons

People are being let go due to downsizing with no respect, and the business is being run by bullies. Look it up - the CEO was just let go for bullying, and this behavior is rewarded for upper management. Bonus and stock plans have little to no payout and the insurance plans are worse every year and more expensive. Wage freeze to come.

Toxic Environment

Pros

Fair pay. Peers are great for the most part, unfortunately the turnover rate is incredibly high so it's tough building any sort of working relationship. I respected my direct manager.

Cons

The finance department was a toxic work environment, to put it lightly. I listened to management preach for months about trying to improve work/life balance and yet most people consistently worked 10/11 hour days and weekends. Corporate (Australia) seems to be alarmingly disconnected and continuously sets unrealistic targets, which only adds to the already stressful environment. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone unless there are actually major changes implemented.

Pros

BBQ on Fridays, toilet paper in the restrooms.

Cons

The cons are everything else. I worked there 7 years and should have seen the writing on the wall half a year in when my co-worker was let go and I picked up 100% of his responsibilities along with the full time work I was already doing for the same pay. Very unrealistic expectations, moving-target goals, and a turnover faster than the overnight shift at McDonalds. Don't bother getting to close to anyone there; chances are they'll be gone shortly. Those that stay sacrifice their family and self-esteem to do so. Upper management WAY out of touch. Most employees constant worried about losing their jobs. They claim they are the 'Employer of Choice' however in the USA treat their employees horribly.
