Toxic Work Environment!

Pros

There are great pockets of good hard working people outside corporate offices

Cons

Inside corporate offices, is a blood bath of lies, back stabbing and female favoritism. Overall poor 'emotional' leadership. Oh, and it is uncommon to have an hr person for more than 6 months.

Can we survive this CEO?

Pros

The best thing about Orica is the expertise and professionalism of the people. With the exception of this current CEO's tenure, benefits were great and the company had opportunities to take you wherever you had the guts to go. The products and services are best in the market and we have a privileged position in our peer group.

Cons

Under the new CEO, employees have been marginalized. Decisions are top down. Top leadership wants/ needs everything simple whether or not it reflects reality or makes sense. Strategy is non-existent or not communicated. The CEO is trying to run a complicated company like a mine rather than a sophisticated services and high-tech products company. Top management was hired from the outside and anyone with prior Orica experience demoted to fit an arbitrary level model. The rules change as leadership sees fit and so there is no stability, alignment, organization or motivation.

Pros

Working in Denver is a great perk, although Watkins is a bit of a haul. Genuinely good people to work with, made the job tolerable. The work is not hard, and it is easy to stand out given the complete lack of talent left in the organization after a mass exodus the past few years.

Cons

Pretty negative experience all around. The most beauracratic company I have ever seen makes it very hard to get things done. No bonuses to speak of anymore or room to advance.
