Pros

Before i started working there i thought that the employees were over all nice and competent at their positions. The Florida weather can be an attraction. The hospital system seems to have the support of some high profile personalities. Long term employment, because you have to practically kill someone before they fire you.

Cons

The pay is low compared to the standard of living in Orlando. Not paying a state tax is no compensation. Management seems to be more impressed with how an employee will fit in with the "team" rather than their qualifications. Nepotism and favoritism run rampant creating a glass ceiling that is almost impossible to break through, unless you can really suck up and someone doesn't stab you in the back. There are many long term employees, which i had thought was a plus for this employer, but this seems to be due to not wanting to fire people, discipline people, or manage the career's of your staff. Long timer's have created big issues by filling positions they are woefully inadequate to fill but are unwilling to give up and spend more time "protecting" their position than actually doing the J.O.B. The long timers that i have had to work with have been difficult and unwilling to embrace change. Even when there is no complaints to address in a project there will always be a long drawn out "story" about how someone feels about the project or about how they feel about something totally unrelated. Hey, if you don't have someone at home to talk to why punish me, get a therapist. This employer talks out of both sides of her mouth. They parrot out phrases like "we treat you like family", but will spend 10's of millions on technology, software (that is never used to benefit the employer), and equipment ( i have seen piles of laptop barley used) and pay a sub standard wage claiming that money is not what will keep employees on the job. There is more "man bashing" on this job then i care to hear in a professional situation. Sorry about all the complaining but what can i say I like men and i like money. The physical working environment is terrible and the staff is constantly being moved. it's almost like playing musical cubes. The building smells and leaks, the air quality is poor and the bathroom smells like an outhouse on a good day. Last but not least, John Hillenmyer is leaving the corporation and his predecessor had been recently quoted that she is focused on acquiring a prestigious IT award and anyone that is not with her can move on. How's that for family, but i bet she won't fire anyone.

Pros

You get to just do therapy. There is no insurance approval to deal with, no endless reports, no astronomical case loads. You have only 5 required hours of face to face contact with clients so you have plenty of time for training, research, and client case notes. The CEO is a great, employee centered man with a goal of making Orlando Health the best place to work. They offer merit increases and bonuses.

Cons

There are way too many dysfunctional managers that the upper echelon ignore because they are giving them the right numbers, despite high turn over and massive employee complaints in their departments. HR is really the corporate police and can not be trusted, ever, to have the employees back. Racist managers and doctors continue to practice with a mere slap on the wrist, if any reprimands at all. As long as they are showing the right numbers, no one cares.

Pros

+ The benefits package was great. + Many of the people that work there are very caring. + The company really does want you to expand your knowledge and be very informed. + The company has been very transparent about its recent financial challenges and has held "Town Hall" meetings to address them.

Cons

- Despite resistance from upper management, unionisation is imminent due to the way employees have been treated over the last year. - The company has consistently been doing things to make employees' pay less, even on the lowest level. They reduced the amount of shift differential you get, they reduced the amount of PTO you accrue, and they have reduced the amount of bonus you get for carrying extra certifications. - Many employees are now losing up to $10,000 this year for doing the same work they did last year. - Employees on the clinical side are even more overworked because they have not been hiring to help buffer the employee attrition rate. - Working at any hospital within ORH is honestly like still being back in high school. Management is constantly checking to see if you are chewing gum, talking on your cell phone, returning from break on time (breaks cannot be under or over 30 minutes). - Simply put, you are not treated as an adult. - Moving up in the company is a very, very slow process. There are many who have worked for 10+ years doing the exact same job. Moving up is very difficult and discouraged. - ORH has a culture of wanting everyone to be in their place at all times. Moving up and vacating your position is seen as threatening to the culture. - These "town hall" meetings don't usually allow much time for questions, and usually give a very slanted view on the financial crisis that this hospital is facing.
