Decent for Big Law

Pros

A great variety of work that gives good exposure to various areas of corporate law. It is a socially conscious place that tries to do the right thing with some genuinely nice people.

Cons

Typical toxicity of big law: no work life balance and considering associates as cogs in a wheel. This also manifests in the tendency to put client demands (sometimes unreasonable) above all else to an unhealthy degree.

Pros

Exceptional support staff, leadership, and attorneys. Intelligent people in every division. Seldom had to deal with coworkers who were concerned with trivial matters outside of work.

Cons

Sacrificed personal time to meet client expectations. Could’ve chosen not to do so, but it felt necessary to be able to stay afloat.

Pros

Besides being a reputable law firm (and looking GREAT on your resume if you choose to move on in the future), Orrick fosters an inclusive work environment for people of all backgrounds and identities. Very much has a “safe space” feel.

Cons

Benefits aren’t as good as they could be, sparingly.
