Pros

A lot of decent people to work with both on the trading and tech side. They do their best with strong motivations.

Cons

1. As is said in the headline, you were asked to take a cut on your bonus in bad times and were told that we were going to be great again. Then you thought it meant proportional bonus to firm's earnings in bad or good times, but no way they would do this to the tech folks when things get better. Yet they claim to be a tech company and indeed it is the tech that makes trades possible during crazy markets with all my due respect to traders. 2. Some managers are aweful - no surprise as from point 1. They would give a bad review citing random projects from the previous review cycle, which happened to be good samples before. They just don't care about you or your need. They care about their own reimbursement/level etc. What's the point of working there being ripped off financially and mentally? 3. Why it is still successful? You don't need to be nice to all your employees to be successful. People like winners. Is it replicable? - Yes. With a few experienced traders and architecture/techs and capital, you are 30% on your way to a trading shop if you have a team working together. That's what I meant about tech in point 1, technology lays the platform, traders stay or come and go so strategies evolve. But what does tech receive ? Cheap talk like being proudly presented as part of a team that builds a successful technology company in all hands.

Pros

The company is very supportive, lots of interesting problems, great people. The problems are interesting. As an engineer there is a lot of opportunity to take ownership. Good size—not too big but not small. The tech org does product well. They are very introspective, always looking to improve.

Cons

I have read many of the other reviews and have not experienced the dysfunction or problems with management that others have mentioned. Base compensation is on the lower end as it’s more bonus driven.

Pros

Prefacing this with: Many of the 1 star reviews are former employees who got dealt a bad hand or honestly just couldn't cut it. Some of what they say is true, but they clearly use this page to vent frustration to management so prepare a lot of grains of salt as you continue down the page. Some stuff they say is just wrong, tried to be honest in my review here. Real Pros: - You can go really far really fast, position, responsibilities, pay (although starting is low relatively) are all high variance, get lucky or be good and you'll have a great time. - Tech is good, I don't care what people write about it being behind, even if it is (I wouldn't know), we're clearly taking more money from competitors than ever before and its growing every year and a lot of it comes from tech. - The People. Most employees at this company have only worked in one place so they do not understand the caliber of some of their coworkers in both skills and generally as quality humans. The best and most interesting people I've ever met have been through this company. - Under New Management, company recently reorged and it gave people that I have extremely high confidence in opportunities to move the firm in the direction of growth and hopefully press for changes at the top. If they cant achieve meaningful change, I'm wasting my time here, but I believe in them. - Really the people, some people are absolutely amazing and I would follow them to any firm they hopped ship to if they were hiring. If you work here and aren't in C Suite, I'm sure you know who these amazing people are and if you don't, go get a drink with Ruiz. - Sometimes the Founders/CSuite do really good things externally, smart acquisitions, good integrations and planning for long term. External -> Internal has been good via acquisition recently

Cons

- Empty Generations, Firm is heavily reliant on hiring and firing as a management style and 'radical changes' are terribly spun as 'good and necessary' leading to lumpily shaped experience curves at the firm, there are clearly going to be situations down the road where there is 'no good internal hire' for important management positions. This happened in tech recently, you can read other tech reviews to get a feel for how that's going. - Landmine Managers and Situations, some 'lifers' at the company who have made it deep into management will ruin their reports careers for brownie points with the C Suite and get a graceful placement managing something else when they fail again, usually something brand new, so the stakes are lower. Have seen this run through multiple times, same people. Had a perfect fit hire (experience, pedigree, 9 yards) for a new department at firm, saw who's running it, decided to recommend they avoid the role, I would be a bad friend otherwise. - Need to know when to lay-low or 'duck' from an oncoming whim of the founders. There aren't many people here who have jumped around businesses or stood out in a storm and stayed. See the above. A few do well, again high variance. - Alcohol Culture
