Stay Far Far Away!!!

Pros

Good PTO hours...yeah that's about it.

Cons

This company has honestly become a joke! What used to be a great place to work became unbearable and discouraging in all ways possible. Thanks to the new CEO and his executive team who will walk all over you if you're in a management or lower position. For the past couple years PenFed has been vastly hiring directors and senior managers, who sit behind closed doors in "meetings" all day while the lower level employees work their butts off to keep the department going and aren't even being appreciated or fairly compensated. You may be doing 10 things right and no one, especially the senior management, will acknowledge it. You do 1 thing wrong and you will hear it from the whole chain of command. They love to point fingers and throw you under the bus. The only reason I stayed at PenFed for as long as I did was because of the few great colleagues I worked with. As far as the executive team...it's the worst at its best! If you have zero self respect, tolerance for vulgar executives and like to work federal holidays, this place is for you. Otherwise, please stay far far away!!!

The reality is...

Pros

Great immediate co-workers. The people that grind with you on the day to day are mostly amazing, hard-working people.

Cons

Upper management (looking at you directors and above). You'll see the other negative reviews here, and they're pretty scathing...but in all honesty, it's mostly true. They are aware of these honest reviews and have taken to posting here to try and help the rating. If I were to guess, I'd say the actual rating floats around 1.5 to 2 stars. That's being generous. Not saying that it's all the positive reviews, because I'm sure in certain departments it might be better, but everyone knows who the problem leaders are. The company simply does nothing to fix it though. From what I understand it wasn't always like this (it certainly wasn't when I started working here). Sometimes things change and it's for the worst.

Pros

-Ability to move up in the company -Good Benefits

Cons

The company has gone downhill fast over the last 2 years. The CEO does not run the company, Tammy Darvish does. Unfortunately, she is a power-hungry, egotistical micro-manager. If you have ideas or creativity, do not work here. PenFed is only looking for sheeple who will blindly follow the angry orders of upper management. The problem is, the entire upper management team is made up of ex-car salespeople with no financial experience whatsoever. They spend most of their day playing politics instead of communicating and developing their teams or products. The secretly-scheming tactics of upper management continue to drain employee morale. If you were to walk into a service center and talk to 100 or so employees, 95% of them will tell you how unhappy, stressed out, and underappreciated they feel. The managers are treated with no respect, lied about, and disposed of at whim. There are plenty of banking organizations out there that will treat you better, pay you more, and respect your time there.
