Pros

Income was decent during low rate environment. End of Pros.

Cons

Company looks for every avenue in which to exploit a LOs job security as well as commission payouts. Micromanaged every minute of every hour of every day, with the threat of being terminated held over your head daily. Absurd metrics that must be met on a daily basis. Calls are recorded and monitored by a 3rd party company, by people who's only job is to make sure you read every single word on every single page of the company's 10 page sales script. You miss one word and you are hit with a critical fail, which not only places you in the termination pile-but the company then keeps your commission on that loan when it funds. Technology that is spotty at best, taking up to 30 minutes simply to get logged into the system. If you're more than 5 minutes late logging in to your shift, you are written up -all because Pennymacs servers are bogged down and won't let you in. Multiple months in which I would miss hitting 125% payouts on commission by 1 funding unit-only to see that unit literally fund the very next day on the 1st of the next month. This alone costs me tens of thousands of dollars every quarter in commissions. Shady practices and nonpayment of entitled commissions to loan officers should be scrutinized and red flagged by government entities, because clearly this is not legal and unethical. Hmmm....this just gave me an idea.

Pros

Inbound leads from their existing servicing portfolio. Free parking.

Cons

Just about everything else. Poor compensation. Base pay is below minimum wage and the tier based production compensation is the worst in the industry. Management is awful…all white male bro types who would never have a similar position anywhere else because the company only promotes from within. Consumer reviews are horrible…see for yourself on Trustpilot.com. It’s only worth working here if you have no experience so you can have them pay for your licensing, then get your feet wet originating some loans and go work for a real mortgage company that will treat you with dignity. Executive team is stuck in the early 2000’s….very backwards company.

Pros

Good salary and bonus plan Generally upbeat and positive environment Good cafeteria Very big DEI focus, though it can be to the point where people are afraid to open their mouths for fear of saying something wrong

Cons

Expensive insurance. It's cut in half if you participate in the wellness program, but even half is expensive. Stingy vacation, with no improvement for five years and even then only if you're a VP or higher. Mandatory in office for vice president and above. You might be eligible for hybrid under that, but your boss will be in the office and this is definitely an office-first culture. Miserable open office, for everyone under SVP level. Research says you'll be unhappy and unproductive, so be aware of what you're walking into. CEO cult. In the midst of massive layoffs and loads of empty office space, they actually opened another office so the CEO wouldn't have to commute but could still say he was on site. Nobody seems willing to speak against what he wants. For some positions - not sure which ones - no annual salary review, so be sure to ask if that's true for your situation
