Pros

This is a great entry level sales job. You will gain the confidence to succeed in sales, because if you can sell OHM, then you can sell pretty much anything. (Which is why companies are quick to poach from PHMG) PHMG also does have a good PTO policy, and they even give two weeks off for Christmas. If you get 1/3 of the good HOS, then you will get extensive training and development. Incentives are great - but there's a reason why they throw huge incentives in your face.

Cons

Extremely cut throat. They will PIP you. They will also fire you, just to fire you. Because office didn't hit target for a couple quarters, they did soft layoffs, which scared away a ton of high performers. There's no clear career projection outside of being an inside sales rep. Promotions from Senior 1 to Senior 2 are also not guaranteed, I have seen people at PHMG that have been there for years, that are at Senior 1. When rent and cost of living is rising at Chicago, it SUCKS living off of a 40K base, because you can book the most qualified app, and it can still blow out for price. Vaping, adderall, and hook up culture is huge here. You will hear about coworkers hooking up - against your will. It is so bad that if you are friendly with another coworker of the opposite sex, people will make assumptions. You will see people deal adderall on the floor. Good luck, if you have quit or are trying to quit nicotine! Payout structure is also VERY unclear. When I was interviewing, I was told that I would get 100% of commission. Come to find out, that you only get 100% if you exceed $1750 in sales. Hitting Target IS HARD, because of the product-market fix. You can BLANK, even if you booked 10+ meetings. Oh and all these bonuses, pretty much non-existent. SFIs are also EXTREMELY common, because of PHMG's reputation. (Google PHMG + Facebook) In the event of an SFI, you can have that money taken out of your next paycheck. (THAT'S WHY THEY'RE SO BIG ON BOOKING HEATERS!) You get sold a dream here, stay here for a few months, get your experience, and then leave. If you're a girl, you will get hit on a lot. You will also be pit against other women in the office.

Pros

Commission structure can be lucrative if you’re driven and hit your sales targets — high commission rates and great incentives that are rolled out on the sales floor. If you’re driven by performance-based pay and thrive in a fast-moving sales environment with lots of coaching and team energy, This role at PHMG can deliver strong financial rewards and visible career progression. But be prepared for long hours, high targets, and a culture that demands resilience and consistency to truly succeed The environment is fast-paced and competitive, which many employees find motivating. Teams are reported as supportive with a strong camaraderie, upbeat culture, and plenty of incentives and recognition for success

Cons

consistently referenced as a “grind” — the quota-driven nature and daily activity expectations make it a high-stress environment that isn’t for everyone

PHMG Response

Hi there, Really appreciate you taking the time to write such a thoughtful review and for the last few years you’ve put in with the Chicago team. You’ve summed the role up pretty honestly: it can be demanding, but for people who enjoy a competitive sales environment and performance-based pay, the earning potential and incentives can be a big draw. It’s also great to hear the team energy and support on the floor are coming through. Your point about the impact managers have on morale is a really good one. Consistent coaching and development for leaders is something we’re always working on, so feedback like this is genuinely helpful. Thanks again for sharing your perspective and for everything you’ve contributed over the past few years. P&C Team
